A little beauty. A little tradition. A lot of heart.
Make room for the occasion.
A beautiful table isn't about owning the finest things. It's about knowing how to bring what you have together with intention, warmth and a touch of imagination.
Whether you're hosting a holiday lunch, setting the table for dinner with friends, or simply wanting to make an ordinary evening feel special, join me for a charming, practical exploration of the art of the table.
What we'll explore
The art is in the details.
Thoughtful lessons you can put to work with the pieces already in your cupboards.
Proper place settings
Where everything belongs, from flatware to glassware, and how to create a table that feels both polished and welcoming.
Lunch versus dinner
Learn what changes between a daytime gathering and a more formal evening meal—and when you can relax the rules.
Napkin folds
Simple, lovely folds that lend a finished feeling to your table without unnecessary fuss.
Basic dinner etiquette
Timeless table manners and thoughtful hosting touches that help everyone feel comfortable and cared for.
Centerpieces from what you already own
We'll think beyond the expected: collected objects, seasonal branches, books, bowls, candlesticks and treasures hiding in plain sight. Beautiful doesn't have to mean expensive.
A personal note from Val
Darling, use the good china.
“I have always believed that the way we set a table is one of the loveliest ways we can say: this moment matters, and so do the people gathered around it.”
Some of my favorite tables have been made with a mix of inherited pieces, unexpected finds and a bit of creative rearranging. There is something wonderful about opening the cupboards, seeing old things in a new light, and creating a little ceremony out of an ordinary day.
In this workshop, I'll share the traditions I love, the practical rules worth knowing, and the permission to make them your own. Bring your curiosity—and perhaps a napkin or two to practice with. I can't wait to gather with you.
With love, Val
